Mother Nature has indeed a lot of secrets yet unveiled. But when these secrets and healing wonders are uncovered by man, surely, illness and diseases will stay away.

There are a lot of herbs, shrubs, and plants that scatter everywhere that have their healing effects and secret spells to ensure us that good health still awaits for us.

Thanks to the Ayurvedic medicine, we now have an idea about how the Hindus of the past healed themselves from illness and found themselves living healthy lives. The Haritaki herb, jujube, and schizandra, are some of the herbs that have been long used by those who embraced the principles of Ayurvedic medicine.

The haritaki herb, according to Charak Ramsita, possesses five tastes or rasas: the weet, sour, Salty, pungent, Bitter and astringent. It is primarily used to alleviate the gas pains and improves the appetite. Haritaki is also good for leprosy, as well as in other skin diseases, and stomach disorders.

Jujube, on the other hand, which grows in most countries in Asia, is believed to be a stress reliever. When prepared as a decoction, the jujube can be a good remedy for soar throats.

The schizandra is a household shrub that thrives on any soil and in shady places. It grows in East Asian countries and, according to the Chinese, it has five basic flavors in Chinese herbal medicine: salty, sweet, sour, pungent (spicy), and bitter. Furthermore, the Chinese prized the schizandra as a remedy against infections, skin diseases, insomnia, sore throat and cough, and even thirst.
